Emma Raducanu has revealed she sought advice from Andy Murray during a tough season on the WTA Tour.

The 20-year-old burst onto the scene after an astonishing win at the 2021 US Open, becoming the first ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam title.

She has since struggled to live up to the expectations set at Flushing Meadow, failing to string together a run of victories all season.

Raducanu has been plagued by fitness issues in particular, withdrawing from numerous tournaments due to injury.

In a bid to change this before next season, she is now working with Murray’s former physical conditioning specialist Jez Green.

Murray has been a long-term supporter of his fellow British tennis star, and Raducanu recently told Grazia that she had been receiving advice from him.

What did Emma Raducanu say about Andy Murray?

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam winner, has been able to share his experience of competing at the highest level of tennis with Raducanu.

He has also had his fair share of injuries, particularly in the latter stages of his career.

"[In tennis] it could look like it's all going down, down, down and just not getting any better," Raducanu told Grazia. "But it can all change so fast.

"Just one match can have a big influence on your confidence and once you have confidence and the momentum comes, you feel like you can't lose.

"Andy Murray is so good to talk to because he's been through pretty much what I've been going through.

"I have always looked up to him and watched him since winning his first Wimbledon and the Olympics."

How has Andy Murray supported Emma Raducanu in the past?

After Raducanu won the US Open, Murray stressed that he would be more than willing to speak with the young star, but only if she wanted his help.

“I don’t think that I’m necessarily the right person to be giving advice on those things,” he said in February.

“She has her team that she’s working with, that she will trust to help her through those moments.

“If she wanted to know my advice, I’m sure she would message or speak to me and contact me, and I’d be more than happy to chat, but I’m not just going to dish out advice on that.”

Raducanu seems to have taken Murray up on his offer, having previously named the tennis legend as her dream coach.

The world number 75, who was recently made an MBE by King Charles at a special ceremony at Windsor Castle, is set to compete later this month in an exhibition match against Ons Jabeur.
