Crystal Palace ‘are still interested’ in signing Watford winger Ismaila Sarr ahead of the January window, according to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons.

The Eagles were heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old over the summer, but he ultimately ended up staying put at Vicarage Road despite his current employers suffering relegation last season.

Crystal Palace transfer news – Ismaila Sarr

Sky Sports reported back in August that Villa had an offer totalling £25 million plus add-ons accepted by Watford for Sarr as he looked for an immediate Premier League return.

However, the deal collapsed after problems emerged when the two sides began to discuss the details, including the possibility of Cameron Archer or Kortney Hause joining the Hornets on loan.

A report from the Evening Standard then revealed that Crystal Palace ‘expressed an interest’ in signing Sarr, although a deal could not be completed for him.

The Senegal international’s current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2024, though, meaning Watford will be forced to make a decision over his future imminently.

And Sarr has impressed for his nation at the World Cup so far, once again increasing the speculation over where he will be plying his trade next year.

What has Aarons said about Sarr?

Aarons has disclosed that Palace remain keen on bringing Sarr to Selhurst Park and believes that one club could secure a ‘good deal’ for the attacker in the near future.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “We talked about Villa last time, and Palace are still interested in him.

“But his contract’s coming to an end, I think it ends in 2024. So, there could be a good deal for somebody coming up.”

Would Sarr be a good signing?

Sarr has registered 30 goals and 21 assists in 109 appearances for Watford but has been unable to prevent them from suffering relegation from the Premier League on two occasions during his time with the club.

The 6 foot 1 ace started all three of Senegal’s Group A games in Qatar and bagged a crucial goal in their 2-1 victory over Ecuador, helping his nation advance to the last 16.

Sarr is set to line up against England over the weekend, and he will surely be eager to impress against the Three Lions.

It remains to be seen if Palace decide to try their luck for Sarr when the transfer window re-opens for business next month, but Patrick Vieira may be tempted to try and pull off a cut-price deal.
