Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most skilful footballers of all time.Yes, the Portuguese superstar might have toned down the flicks and tricks as he's matured into the ultimate footballing machine, but that doesn't mean that he hasn't got the skills to pay the bills anymore. We don't doubt for a second that if Ronaldo suddenly woke up one day and decided that he'd like to channel style over substance in his next match that he'd duly produce something straight out of FIFA Street.

How skilful is Ronaldo?

It's no wonder, after all, that so many fans have fond memories of a raw and untamed Ronaldo dizzying defenders with step-overs and chops down the wing for Manchester United.

And when we see Ronaldo revisit that style of football the most, it tends to be in scenarios where turning up the flair doesn't have a negative impact on overall performance: often in warm-ups and in training.

Whether it's Diego Maradona or Lionel Messi or Zinedine Zidane, there are countless examples of ballers who can't resist showing off their talents as they refine their skills on the training pitch - and power to them.

Ronaldo, naturally, is no different with seldom more than a few weeks going by without a snippet of him in training leaving fans smashing the 'replay' button all across social media.

However, while we don't doubt that you've already seen plenty of clips of Ronaldo turning on the style away from games, we feel pretty confident that you've never seen him pull off a skill quite like the one he executed in Portugal training recently.

Which still did Ronaldo seemingly invent in training?

That's because it seems as though Ronaldo has invented a new party trick altogether: the fake headed pass.

Fake passes in general are a famous, though admittedly rare, flash of showboating that Thierry Henry is particularly notorious for, but has anyone ever channeled that in the form of a header?

It certainly feels unlikely because marvellous footage of Ronaldo fooling his teammates by intimating that he was winding up for a massive header only to simply let it hit his scalp has gone viral on Twitter.

Is it simply a harmless piece of fun in training? Sure, but is it also an extremely unique piece of skill that loads of youngsters will now start to want practising? Also sure, so be sure to check it out:

While, of course, it's near impossible to discount anyone having pulled off a skill of this nature before, a quick search of the internet and the subsequent dearth of relevant returns seems to make it pretty likely that Ronaldo is indeed the inaugurator.

After all, the closest we came to finding something of this nature having been done before was actually from Ronaldo himself in a game as he let the ball go out for a throw-in despite briefly fooling the defenders into thinking that he was going to head it back into the box.

Who do Portugal play next?

Ronaldo and Portugal will now resume their 2022 World Cup campaign in the round of 16 as they lock horns with Switzerland on Tuesday, December 6 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.

If they can overcome that challenge, then perhaps Ronaldo could whip out his 'fake headed pass' against one of either Spain or Morocco in a quarter-final clash at the Al Thumama Stadium.
