Kylian Mbappe broke a World Cup record previously held by Pele in France's last 16 clash with Poland on Sunday afternoon.

The Frenchman has been in stunning form in Qatar and he was in the starting lineup once again for the match at Al Thumama Stadium.

The PSG superstar was in fine form once again as he tormented Poland's defence throughout the 90 minutes.

He played a pivotal role in France's opener, scored by Olivier Giroud.

Mbappe picked up the ball just outside the box and spotted the run of Giroud.

The 36-year-old then did the rest as he found the corner of the net.

Mbappe produced a thunderous finish to double France's lead with 16 minutes of normal time remaining.

The 23-year-old superstar was given all sorts of time and space inside the box.

His effort travelled at an incredible 47kmh. No wonder Szczęsny couldn't get to it.

With that goal - his eighth in World Cup history - Mbappe overtook Pele for most goals scored by a player aged 23 or under in the competition.

He then notched his brace and scored France's third in stoppage-time.

Mbappe cut inside from the left and curled his effort beautifully into the top corner.

The game finished 3-1 as Robert Lewandowski netted a consolation goal for Poland in the dying embers of the match.

Mbappe has scored five goals in Qatar and has a two-goal lead in the race for the Golden Boot.

With nine goals in total, Mbappe now has more World Cup goals than Cristiano Ronaldo (8) and Diego Maradona (8).

France have surged into the last eight and will now play either England or Senegal in the next round.

With the sensational Mbappe in their ranks, France have a superb chance of retaining their World Cup title.
