Chelsea transfer news - Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Calciomercato recently claimed that AC Milan are interested in signing Loftus-Cheek.

The 26-year-old has been a regular for Chelsea this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions for them so far, as per Transfermarkt.

Despite that, the same outlet states that the west London club may still be willing to sell Loftus-Cheek.

The Chelsea star was not included in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the World Cup, but Phillips told GIVEMESPORT back in October that he was being seriously considered by the Three Lions boss.

What has Simon Phillips said about Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Chelsea?

According to Phillips, Loftus-Cheek's desire is to remain at Chelsea.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "It's an interesting one because not so long ago they were talking about extending his contract and they were going to sit down with him and do that.

"Loftus-Cheek, in his eyes, he wants to stay at Chelsea. He's always maintained the desire to stay here and make it at Chelsea, and he's continued to prove that in recent seasons."

Should Loftus-Cheek have been called up to the England squad?

It is not a surprise to hear that Southgate considered taking Loftus-Cheek to Qatar. As already mentioned, he has been playing regularly this season, while the Chelsea academy graduate is also a midfielder who is great at driving through the middle of the park with the ball.

As per FBref, he has ranked in the 96th percentile for dribbles completed among his positional peers over the last year.

In the end, though, there was just too much competition, with Southgate's squad including the likes of Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson.

Simply put, the Three Lions already have some very good midfield options, so the call to leave Loftus-Cheek, who earns £150,000 at Chelsea, according to Salary Sport, at home was probably justified.

There is, of course, Euro 2024 coming up soon. If the former Fulham and Crystal Palace loanee can stay fit and remain in the Blues' starting XI, then perhaps he could get called up for that tournament.

As for now, he will surely be concentrating on Chelsea and helping Potter's eighth-placed side to climb the Premier League table.
