Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is highly unlikely to let Djed Spence leave the Lilywhites in the January transfer window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The right-back only arrived at Hotspur Way in a move from Championship side Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham transfer news – Djed Spence

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge told GiveMeSport last month that Conte would not have any problems with letting Spence leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a loan during the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, former Spurs man Alan Hutton has urged the club to let the full-back leave on a loan move in the new year in an interview with Football Insider, in a bid to stop the defender’s confidence from being knocked by his lack of game time.

The 22-year-old signed for the Lilywhites in a deal worth up to £20m in the summer transfer window, but has found getting in the side over first-choice Emerson Royal a challenge this campaign.

However, Brown doubts that the club would allow Spence to leave on loan in January, and doesn’t think that Spurs will sell the right-back on a permanent deal “in a million years” come the transfer window’s opening.

What has Brown said about Tottenham and Spence?

Brown told GiveMeSport: “I doubt if they would even allow him a loan move in January, but I suppose that is more likely than him leaving on a permanent which I cannot see in a million years.”

What next for Tottenham and Spence?

With a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium seeming unlikely for Spence according to Brown, the right-back must now find a way to force his way into Conte’s side, ahead of both Royal and Matt Doherty.

The London-born full-back has made just four appearances in a Tottenham shirt since he arrived in the summer transfer window according to role in Nottingham Forest’s promotion to the Premier League last season.

According to Fabrizio Romano last week, who was writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Spurs have not made a decision on whether to loan Spence out in the January transfer window, with Conte preferring experience in the full-back position, with the three-time England U21 international seen somewhat as a product for the future.

Therefore, it seems to be that the uncertainty that shrouds Spence’s immediate future in north London is unlikely to be cleared up until the opening of the January transfer window, where Conte’s hand may be forced in a bid to give the right-back more playing time ahead of what he hopes will be a successful career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
