Ian Wright has fired back at trolls who mocked Eni Aluko’s analysis during Brazil’s last-16 clash with South Korea at the 2022 World Cup.

In the end, Brazil ran out convincing 4-1 winners, thanks to a stunning first-half display, which saw Tite’s side score four times in less than 40 minutes.

Richarlison’s goal was the pick of the strikes, with the Spurs star combining with Thiago Silva to notch his third goal of the tournament.

The striker has an excellent goal record for Brazil and has scored 20 times in just 41 appearances for the national side.

Aluko, who was a pundit for the match on ITV, alongside Graeme Souness and Roy Keane, had a momentary slip of the tongue after the game when she mistakenly tried to do the maths on the Brazilian’s goal-to-game ratio.

"He [Richarlison] really has [had a big impact]," she said.

"He's the top scorer for Brazil over the last two years. He's got a great record, 19 in 40 appearances, you do the math on that – that’s one goal a game, pretty much."

While viewers were quick to jump on the former Lionesses star’s mistake, Wright has defended his colleague and urged fans to "grow up.”

What has Ian Wright said about Eni Aluko?

Wright, who is also a pundit at this World Cup, stressed that he’s made plenty of blunders on live TV in the past and that people’s criticism of Aluko is entirely unfounded.

"I've made countless mistakes live on air,” he admitted. “The replies to this are horrible. You man are so pressed by women in football that you take pure pleasure in this. Grow up.”

Taking to Twitter, Aluko also responded to her haters —  joking about her lack of maths knowledge and sharing a clip of another piece of analysis on Richarlison from the game.

"Got myself a First class law degree, 102 caps & a Doctorate but Maths wasn’t always my forte,” she said.

"Nearly 1 in 2 games is the math on Richarlison. But some of you weirdo Twitterati knew that already.”

She added: "Might also learn from the rest of the analysis conveniently ignored.”

Richarlison’s impressive scoring streak continues

Richarlison made his Brazil debut back in 2018 and has established himself as the team’s first-choice striker.

The 25-year-old was part of the Brazil side that finished second in the 2021 Copa America and scored a hat-trick on his Olympic debut at Toyko 2020.
