Manchester United have built a 'good relationship' with Cody Gakpo's agent and it is now a 'no-brainer' for Erik ten Hag to lure the PSV Eindhoven star to Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils could be on the hunt for a new attacker during the January window after mutually agreeing to terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract last month.

Man United transfer news - Cody Gakpo

According to The Sun, Gakpo is keen on sealing a move to Manchester United after PSV have set a £50million price tag.

The report suggests the Red Devils are preparing to head to the negotiating table during the winter transfer window, but they will face competition from Premier League rivals Everton, Southampton and West Ham United.

Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Manchester United are the favourites to land Gakpo if he is to seal his departure from PSV.

It comes after the Dutchman admitted that he spent the majority of the summer believing he would head to Old Trafford, having registered an interest, but a move failed to materialise.

Respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United have been holding discussions with Gakpo's representatives, heightening hopes that an agreement will be reached next month.

What has Dean Jones said about Gakpo?

Jones believes Manchester United should not hesitate in pouncing for Gakpo after PSV's asking price emerged.

The journalist also feels the Red Devils have improved their chances of winning the race for the winger's signature by speaking with his representatives.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think, at £50million, it really is a no-brainer to be honest.

"We already know they have a good relationship here with the agent. We know that United's interest is retained in the player."

How has Gakpo performed at the World Cup?

The Netherlands are preparing to face Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday, and there is no doubt that Gakpo has played a significant role in his country's journey to this stage.

The 23-year-old has been formidable in front of goal, with Sofascore statistics showing he has found the back of the net every 113 minutes since the tournament got underway in Qatar.

Gakpo has been handed an average match rating of 7.8 by WhoScored, meaning he has been the top performer in Louis van Gaal's side.

But scoring in three of his four appearances at the World Cup should not come as a major surprise considering how he has been performing domestically in recent months.

That is because Gakpo boarded the flight to the Middle East after already chalking up 30 goal contributions this season.
