Liverpool may not need Sofyan Amrabat due to the array of talented youngsters coming through at Anfield, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Reds in recent days after putting in a string of outstanding performances for Morocco at the World Cup to help them reach the quarter-finals.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via the Daily Mail) have claimed that Amrabat would be tempted to make the switch to Liverpool due to the appeal of Champions League football.

It’s believed that the defensive-minded star would demand a significant increase on his £30,000-per-week wages, though, if he was to leave Fiorentina.

And reliable Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has also stated that Liverpool are among the clubs ‘observing’ Amrabat, who is open to leaving La Viola and is valued at around €30 million (£25.8m).

Amrabat’s agent Gianluca Nani has also addressed the speculation, saying: “Liverpool on him? I haven’t heard the word, also because I don’t look for it, I have a different job.

“But it is true that Liverpool are looking for more than one player in that role. I don’t know if Amrabat is on their list, then it’s difficult to say if he’s worthy of Liverpool: they’ll evaluate him even if in the Premier League the intensity needed is great.”

What has Jones said about Amrabat?

Jones has disclosed to GiveMeSport that he would be shocked if Jurgen Klopp attempted to sign Amrabat given the potential of Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho.

He said: “I'd be surprised over this one given they've got Harvey Elliott coming in, they’ve got Carvalho, they've got other players that I think mean that they don't need to go down this route.”

How well has Amrabat played at the World Cup?

Amrabat has played every minute of Morocco’s World Cup campaign to date, helping them top Group F ahead of Belgium and Croatia, and seeing him praised for having "stamina for miles".

The tough-tackling dynamo was crucial as his side saw off Spain in the last 16, and his underlying numbers indicate why he has won so many plaudits for his performances in Qatar.

As per WhoScored, Amrabat has averaged 2.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, and 41.3 passes per game throughout the showpiece event, placing him in the top three for each metric amongst his teammates.

If Amrabat, who has been described as "outstanding", can help Morocco get past Portugal in the next round, then a move away from Fiorentina may well be inevitable in January.
