West Ham United target Michael Keane may not be a 'sexy name', but the Everton star is 'very much in line' with what David Moyes wants at the London Stadium, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Hammers are just one point clear of the Premier League's relegation zone and could bolster their squad during the January window.

West Ham transfer news - Michael Keane

According to Football Insider, West Ham have registered their interest in signing Keane and could look to strike a deal in January.

The report suggests Moyes is a huge admirer of the central defender, who has been restricted to just 22 minutes of Premier League action this season, and attempted to reach an agreement during the summer.

Journalist Paul Brown has told GIVEMESPORT that Keane needs to leave Everton after falling down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

But West Ham are not the only side mulling over whether to head to the negotiating table as Nottingham Forest are additional suitors and the 29-year-old could be lured away from Goodison Park for £15million.

Although Everton appear to be open to offers for the 6 ft 3 star, they are not under pressure to sanction Keane's departure as his £65,000-per-week contract still has more than two-and-a-half years to run.

What has Dean Jones said about Keane?

Jones believes West Ham are right to be targeting Keane even though he may not necessarily be an exciting name for the Hammers' fans.

The journalist understands that the 12-cap England international has all the attributes Moyes is looking for.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "He's not a sexy name, but I think he might be exactly the type of player they should be targeting.

"I think he's very much in line with all the things I'm told that they are looking for. I know that he is somebody that they have considered and I think he'd be a pretty good option for them."

Do West Ham need to sign another centre-back?

West Ham will have been worried when Nayef Aguerd suffered an injury during Morocco's World Cup last 16 clash with Spain on Tuesday, but first-team coach Mark Warburton has revealed that the summer signing has contacted the club and suggested the problem is not major.

That will have allayed some fears, but there will still be concern as he only recently returned from the sidelines after undergoing an ankle operation in July.

Kurt Zouma is already on the treatment table thanks to going under the knife after sustaining a knee problem last month, so the last thing Moyes needs is another injury.

Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson's respective contracts are due to expire next summer as well, which emphasises the need for West Ham to draft in some defensive reinforcements.
