Manchester United can "definitely" improve their squad by signing Borussia Dortmund and Belgium defender Thomas Meunier, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Reports claim that the 31-year-old would be willing to listen to an offer from the Red Devils, and O'Rourke thinks he would be a good signing for Erik ten Hag's side.

Man United transfer news - Thomas Meunier

Transfer reporter Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT during the summer that Meunier had been offered to United. Nothing materialised, but that may not be the end of it.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the full-back is ready to consider a move to United, AC Milan or Juventus if Barcelona do not make a serious attempt to sign him.

Ten Hag already has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the right-back position, but the latter could depart Old Trafford next month.

A recent report from TEAMtalk states that United are open to moving the former Crystal Palace man on.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Thomas Meunier and Man United?

Based on his experience and the level he has played at, O'Rourke thinks Meunier would be a solid addition to United's squad.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "I think Thomas Meunier would be a good signing for Manchester United. He's an experienced player, has played at the highest level and I think he would definitely improve that United squad if he was to arrive."

How did Thomas Meunier perform at the World Cup?

It was not a good World Cup for Meunier and Belgium. A team of their quality would have been aiming to go far in the tournament and not get knocked out in the group stage.

Looking at some of his defensive stats, they were not terrible. As per WhoScored, the Dortmund man made two tackles and 1.7 clearances a game, putting him in the top five players for both of those categories in the Red Devils' squad.

Ultimately, Meunier, who earns £165,000 a week, according to Salary Sport, was not outstanding but was not Belgium's worst player in Qatar either.

It means his World Cup showing alone will probably not be enough to get him a move to a club like United next month. However, as O'Rourke touched on, he is someone who is very experienced and has played for a couple of top outfits in Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

When you consider that, if Ten Hag is on the lookout for a new right-back, then he could probably do a lot worse than Meunier.
