Manchester United wide man Jadon Sancho’s absence from Erik ten Hag's side’s mid-season tour is a “situation to look out for” at Old Trafford, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have gone on a winter training camp to Spain ahead of the Premier League’s resumption at the end of the month.

Man United latest – Jadon Sancho

According to the Manchester Evening News, it is intended that Sancho will join up with ten Hag’s squad at Carrington next week, with the winger currently working in the Netherlands on an individual training programme with coaches recommended by the Red Devils manager.

This has occurred as news emerged from Calciomercatoweb in Italy this week suggesting that Chelsea could be prepared to make a bid for the wide man, in a deal which could push Christian Pulisic out of the Stamford Bridge club.

The £73m 2021 summer signing hasn’t set the world alight at Old Trafford, and Jones has already told GiveMeSport that the former Borussia Dortmund man’s future at the Manchester club could be on the line if his form doesn’t turn around by the end of the season.

And the journalist says he is looking into the reasons for Sancho’s absence in Spain this winter, with the developments being something to look out for.

What has Jones said about Man Utd and Sancho?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I'm looking into the reasons for this [Sancho not going on the mid-season tour] at the moment. I hope Sancho can get back to a good place for his and United’s sake. I think this is a situation to look out for.”

What next for Man Utd and Sancho?

With Sancho due to return to training with ten Hag’s squad in Manchester next week, the 23-time England international will hope that the second half of the campaign can offer a turnaround in his fortunes at Old Trafford, and he can finally begin to start showing why the club paid so much money for him.

In his final season at Dortmund, the £350k-per-week star made 38 appearances scoring 16 goals and providing 20 assists according to Transfermarkt.

However, the same stats provider shows that in the two seasons he has played for United, he has only been able to score eight goals and provide four assists in 52 appearances for the Red Devils, suggesting quite a rapid decline in his form since moving to the Premier League.

Therefore, Sancho will be fully focused on attempting to regain some of that form that earned him his move to Old Trafford in the first place, otherwise he could find himself on the hunt for another club come the end of the campaign.
