Tottenham Hotspur target Denzel Dumfries is going to cost "at least £50m" after his World Cup performances, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Inter Milan and Netherlands defender is attracting interest from Spurs, but O'Rourke thinks they are going to find it difficult to do a deal in January.

Tottenham transfer news - Denzel Dumfries

Transfer reporter Dean Jones recently told GIVEMESPORT that it is unlikely that Tottenham will sign Dumfries in the winter window.

The above comes after 90min claimed that the north London club had asked Inter about Dumfries' availability.

At present, Antonio Conte can select Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty or Djed Spence for the right wing-back position.

However, that does not seem to have stopped the Italian from eyeing Dumfries.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Denzel Dumfries and Tottenham?

O'Rourke reckons Dumfries' price tag has increased after his displays in Qatar, which could be a problem for Tottenham.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "Denzel Dumfries has been outstanding at the World Cup for the Netherlands, and I think his price tag's just gone up and up. So it's going to be hard for Tottenham to strike a deal with Inter Milan this January to sign Dumfries, who's probably going to be at least £50m."

Denzel Dumfries' stats for Inter Milan

Since joining Inter from PSV Eindhoven last year, Dumfries has made 65 appearances for the Nerazzurri, as per Transfermarkt.

Across those games, he has scored seven goals and provided 10 assists, showing that the 26-year-old does offer a threat going forward.

Looking at some of his defensive numbers, they are quite low. According to WhoScored, Dumfries is only averaging 0.7 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per league game this season.

It does not mean that he is a terrible defender, though. It probably says more about his role in the team, an attacking right wing-back, and how Simone Inzaghi's side play.

On that note, Dumfries could be a really smart purchase by Tottenham, who line up in a similar way to Inter under Conte.

Ultimately, then, if the 53-year-old is looking to replace one of his current right wing-backs, then it is only logical for him to consider someone like Dumfries, especially after his World Cup showing. The former PSV man was, of course, involved in all three of his nation's goals in their 3-1 win against the USA last weekend.

It is clear, though, that it is going to cost a lot of money to get him out of the San Siro.
