The Dallas Cowboys might have removed themselves from the Odell Beckham Jr sweepstakes altogether with their action, according to Shannon Sharpe.

The ‘sweepstakes’ to try and claim Odell Beckham Jr appear to be coming to an end,  with reports suggesting that the Buffalo Bills, the Dallas Cowboys and his former side the New York Giants were in the ‘final three’ when it came to who was going to be picking up the free agent wide receiver.

Having made quite a big impact for the Los Angeles Rams last season during their run to the Super Bowl by hauling in 593 yards and 7 touchdowns across the regular and postseason, the thought was that one of the contenders for the title this year might look to add him and give their team a boost towards the end of the year.

However, given that he is coming off the back of an ACL injury, his second injury of that kind having had the same occur during the 2020 season with the Cleveland Browns, teams might be forgiven for not wanting to be too quick to sign him, and that’s apparently what is happening with the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys saying goodbye to Beckham?

According to reports, having spoken to Beckham Jr this week, the Cowboys, fearful over the status of his health, the timeframe it would take for him to be fully healthy again and given how little they were allowed to truly examine him during his workout, are unlikely to offer him a contract in order to help them win a Super Bowl this year.

And if the Cowboys aren’t going to get him now, then the chances of him being a Cowboy next season appear to be looking pretty slim as well, according to Shannon Sharpe. He claimed that given the way the Cowboys are set up, with some players set to return next year healthier, and with other important players looking for a payday, it would be unlikely that the Cowboys would want him then.

He stated that the aim was to have Beckham Jr help out this year, and if they aren’t going to offer him a deal now, then they’re essentially never going to give him a deal.

For all the reasons that Sharpe pointed out, it does seem that things just haven’t lined up right for Beckham Jr and the Cowboys, so they might just have to go on without him. They’ll just have to hope that their decision doens’t come back to haunt them in the future.
