Tottenham Hotspur want to add both a defender and a forward to Antonio Conte’s squad at Hotspur Way in the January transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Italian coach’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier League table during the break for the Qatar World Cup.

Tottenham transfer news – January

Despite spending over £140m on seven new additions to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the summer transfer window according to Transfermarkt, it looks as though Spurs will be dipping into the January market to bring some new faces to the club.

Everton and Brazil forward Richarlison alongside Brighton and Hove Albion and Mali midfielder Yves Bissouma were arguably the side’s highest profile captures, whilst the free transfer of Inter Milan and Croatia wing-back Ivan Perišić has also made an impact in north London.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has previously told GiveMeSport that the club could look at addressing their situations at right wing-back, centre-back and attacking midfield in January.

But Jones suggests that the club are interested in both a defender and a forward, though questions how the club will feel following Richarlison’s form for Brazil at the World Cup, in which he scored three goals in four matches.

What has Jones said about Tottenham in January?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think a defender and forward are equally as likely to land, they need both and they want both. I do wonder how they come away from this World Cup from watching Richarlison, it has given them something to think about as they move forward.”

Who could Tottenham sign in January?

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano informed GiveMeSport last month that Tottenham have not entered negotiations for summer centre-back target Alessandro Bastoni, but their interest in the Inter Milan and Italy defender is an “open situation.”

Meanwhile, Tuttomercatoweb have claimed that the Lilywhites have an interest in RB Leipzig and Croatia centre-back Joško Gvardiol, who would fit in with Conte’s desire for a left-sided centre-half in the January transfer window.

In terms of striker options, Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) have claimed that Spurs are interested in a move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham, with Fabio Paratici an admirer of the former Chelsea man.

Having secured their progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League after finishing top of their group, it seems as if Conte is now in the market for more reinforcements, with a top-four finish and deep progression in Europe and in the FA Cup likely to be on his work remit for the second half of the campaign.
