Rangers boss Michael Beale has added Fulham star Josh Onomah to his shortlist of Ibrox targets ahead of the January transfer window, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Having been appointed as the Gers' new manager last month, Beale will be given the opportunity to bolster the squad he inherited during the opening month of 2023.

Rangers transfer news - Josh Onomah

According to Football Insider, Beale is plotting a January deal which would see Onomah head to Rangers.

The report suggests the Glasgow giants' chief is a long-term admirer of the midfielder and looked to sign him during his Queens Park Rangers reign, but there is stiff competition from Championship clubs south of the border.

Onomah looks destined to leave Fulham during the early stages of 2023 as Cottagers boss Marco Silva initially sanctioned his departure in the summer and Beale is now looking to pounce by lining up a loan move.

The 25-year-old was on the brink of joining West Bromwich Albion during the final hours of the most recent transfer window, but the deal collapsed.

Onomah is set to enter the final six months of his £30,000-per-week contract, but there is an option for Fulham to extend the agreement by another year.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Onomah?

O'Rourke understands that Rangers have entered the race for Onomah's signature because Beale is an admirer.

The journalist believes the former Aston Villa assistant manager is mulling over whether to make a move for the out-of-favour Premier League ace.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I believe he does like Josh Onomah from Fulham.

"He was interested in possibly signing him when he was at QPR, so he's a player that's definitely on Beale's radar."

Would Onomah be a good signing for Rangers?

Onomah may have been restricted to just 13 minutes of action since the campaign got underway, according to Transfermarkt, but it is clear that he is capable of making an impact in the Scottish Premiership.

The Tottenham Hotspur academy product has racked up 24 goal contributions during his senior club career, so he could add a different dimension to Rangers in the attacking third.

Onomah has previously been described as 'a special player' by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, underlining that he may be exactly what Beale is looking for when it comes to attempting to close the gap on arch-rivals Celtic, who are nine points clear at the top of the table.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Beale wants to understand whether Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos want to stay at Ibrox, with their respective contracts expiring next summer, but he should still prioritise signing Onomah.
