Arsenal are edging ever closer to the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka, transfer insider Dean Jones has revealed to GiveMeSport.

The deal is expected to be completed soon according to further reports from Italy, but Ndicka is unlikely to join the Gunners until his contract expires in the summer.

What's the latest news involving Evan Ndicka?

It has been a stellar start to the Premier League campaign for Arsenal, who established a five-point gap ahead of reigning champions Manchester City before the World Cup break.

Last lifting the Premier League trophy almost 20 years ago, Arsenal are in prime position to go on and win the championship, with the January transfer window providing an opportunity to strengthen their chances further.

A lack of strength in depth has often plagued Arsenal campaigns in years gone by, but Arteta is keen to ensure that doesn't happen again.

In fact, journalist Robin Bairner previously told GiveMeSport that Ndicka would be interested in a move to the Emirates.

A former French youth international, Ndicka has impressed during his five-year stint with Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

However, the defender would not link up with Arsenal until his contract expires in the summer should the Gunners secure his signing on a free transfer.

As per Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old has started every league match for Eintracht this season, keeping two clean sheets during that time.

In fact, Ndicka has played all but seven minutes of the Eagles' Bundesliga campaign so far, establishing himself as one of the division's brightest young talents.

It's a continuation from last season's strong showing, where Ndicka racked up 44 appearances across all competitions and played a key part in Eintracht's Europa League winning run.

What has Jones said about Ndicka?

Confidence in the Arsenal camp is high and belief is that a deal can be done for Ndicka, with journalist Jones believing it's only a matter of time.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider admitted Ndicka is on the verge of signing for Arsenal.

"It's starting to look like they'll get their man there," explained Jones.

It hasn't been a simple pursuit as far as Arsenal are concerned, with other top clubs across Europe interested in Ndicka's signature.

However, Jones believes the strong start to the campaign Arsenal has enjoyed gave them a leg up in this negotiation.

"Arsenal aren't the only team that wanted him. He's been getting offers from all around Europe.

"But their good season has put them in a good position."

How would Ndicka fit into Arteta's plans?

Sitting top of the Premier League table, it would be easy to forgive Arteta and Arsenal for sticking with what they've got.

Yet, there is a firm belief that strength in depth is what will help the Gunners loosen City's stranglehold on the Premier League trophy, with Ndicka the perfect acquisition to help out defensively.

While they will have to wait until the summer if they are to welcome him to the Emirates, it's clear Arsenal are already making plans for continued success beyond this summer.

Minutes should not be hard to come by for the arriving Ndicka, even if centre-back duo William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have established themselves as the current number-one choice.

It's expected Arsenal will qualify for European football next season - be that in the Champions League or elsewhere - with Ndicka likely to have plenty of matches available to him to make an impression.
