Leeds United are now 'confident' that fan favourite Jack Harrison will commit his future to the club by signing a new contract at Elland Road, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Whites are just two points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone and, ahead of the winter transfer window opening for business at the turn of the year, boss Jesse Marsch wants to tie the winger down to fresh terms.

Leeds contract news - Jack Harrison

According to TEAMtalk, Harrison is close to ending speculation over where his long-term future lies by penning a Leeds contract extension.

The report suggests discussions have been ongoing for a prolonged period of time and there is growing optimism that he will put pen-to-paper sooner rather than later after negotiating a new deal moved onto director of football Victor Orta's agenda.

Leeds are desperate to reach an agreement as Harrison is set to enter the final 18 months of his £15,000-per-week contract in January and the uncertainty over whether he will remain in Yorkshire has led to interest.

Having failed with two bids during the summer transfer window and opted against meeting his £35million price tag, Newcastle United still have the 26-year-old on their shortlist of targets.

Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Leeds will need to offer Harrison a major pay increase after batting away a pair of proposals from the Magpies.

What has Dean Jones said about Harrison?

Jones understands that there is growing optimism behind the scenes that Harrison will pen a new Leeds contract.

Having spoken to contacts close to the negotiations, the journalist has been made aware that the former England under-21 international is expected to sign on the dotted line.

He believes it will not be long before Harrison's long-term future is secured, putting Leeds in an even stronger position if bids are tabled during the January transfer window.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I've checked this out and sources close to it are saying that Leeds are confident that he will sign that new contract soon."

How has Harrison performed this season?

Leeds may have endured an underwhelming first half of the season, but Harrison's Sofascore statistics show that he is still among the side's best performers.

Data suggests he has created five big chances since the Premier League campaign got underway, while he has also contributed in the defensive third of the pitch by winning possession 1.5 times, making 1.3 tackles and 0.5 clearances, on average, per outing.

Those numbers emphasise Harrison's work rate, while he is also leading the way in terms of assists, having got three under his belt.

As per Transfermarkt, the wide-man has only failed to get onto the pitch in two matches this season, underlining his importance to Marsch.

Harrison has also taken his tally of Leeds appearances up to 180 and registered 54 goal contributions in that time, so it is clear that the Whites need to ensure they keep hold of him.
