Everton have Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres on their ‘radar’ ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees are believed to be in the market for attacking reinforcements due to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s persistent injury issues and the in-demand 24-year-old is believed to be of the options being assessed.

Everton transfer news – Viktor Gyokeres

Back in August, The Sun revealed that Everton were ‘considering’ a move for Gyokeres following his outstanding 2021/22 campaign for Coventry.

Frank Lampard and co. ended up signing Neal Maupay from Brighton & Hove Albion, though, but he has only managed to find the back of the net on one occasion in his 11 appearances to date.

And a recent report from Football League World has stated that Everton, Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham United are all contemplating moves for Gyokeres next month.

It’s claimed that Coventry will offer the Sweden international, who has been labelled "very strong", a new and improved contract in an attempt to keep him at the club, but the lure of Premier League football may be too tempting to turn down.

Gyokeres’ current £4,500-per-week contract is due to expire in the summer of 2024, leaving the Sky Blues in a vulnerable position around the negotiating table.

What has Jones said about Gyokeres?

When asked about Everton’s pursuit of Ben Brereton-Diaz, Jones disclosed that Gyokeres is another player on Lampard’s wish list ahead of January.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “There are a few others, though, even of the same sort of level that Everton are looking at as unfulfilled potential.

“I know that the lad at Coventry, Gyokeres, is somebody that they've got on the radar too. So, there's something to look out for there.”

Would Gyokeres be a good signing?

Gyokeres established himself as one of the deadliest finishers in the Championship last season, registering 18 goals and five assists in 47 appearances for Coventry.

The 6 foot 1 ace has carried that form over into 2022/23 too, finding the back of the net on nine occasions in his 20 league outings to date, taking his senior tally up to 61 strikes.

As per FBref, Gyokeres has also ranked in the 99th percentile for progressive passes received, 97th for completed dribbles and shot-creating actions, and 93rd for touches in the attacking penalty area amongst his positional peers over the last year.

Gyokeres could be set to find himself at the centre of a transfer tussle over the coming weeks, and Everton’s chances of survival will surely be boosted if they win the race for his signature.
