Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admired Chelsea and USA winger Christian Pulisic for a long time, says journalist Dean Jones.

The Reds could be forced to enter the transfer market for a new attacker following Luis Diaz's latest injury, and Jones thinks Pulisic would be an "ideal" signing.

Transfer news - Christian Pulisic

Pulisic could be available in January, with journalist Paul Brown telling GIVEMESPORT last month that Chelsea have been willing to listen to offers for the 24-year-old for a while now.

With that in mind, perhaps it is a name Liverpool could consider after Diaz's injury setback.

"Yeah, he was not in the best possible place. It's clear it's a big disappointment for all of us, for him as well," Klopp recently told Liverpool's official club website when discussing the Colombian's latest problem.

"A proper smash in the face. But that's it now," the German later went on to add.

What has Dean Jones said about Christian Pulisic and Liverpool?

While Jones thinks it is unlikely, the transfer reporter believes Liverpool signing Pulisic would solve their Diaz issue.

Speaking to GMS, he said: "The ideal candidate in this situation would probably be Pulisic, someone Klopp has admired for a long time, but I just can’t see that opening up in a way that suits them."

Christian Pulisic's stats for Chelsea

In 133 games for the Blues, Pulisic has scored 26 goals and provided 21 assists, according to Transfermarkt.

It does not scream productive, however, in Pulisic's defence, a lot of those appearances have come from off the bench. The USA international has also delivered some big goals for Chelsea, registering against the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid during his time in west London, so he has had some good moments.

"Christian is a magnificent player," Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta told Pro Soccer Talk (via NBC Sports) back in 2020. "Since he joined us in the summer, he has shown us his potential and we know that he can make the difference at any time."

Unfortunately for Pulisic, though, he has not always been able to show that potential due to a lack of starts. In fact, this season, he has only been named in the Blues' first XI three times in the Premier League (also via Transfermarkt).

Pulisic, who joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund for £58m, as reported by BBC Sport, could now arguably do with a change of scenery. And you would imagine that he would view Anfield as an attractive destination.
