Rangers plan to keep hold of midfielder Glen Kamara, according to transfer reporter Dean Jones.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Ibrox, but Jones says the Gers actually do not expect there to be too much interest in him in January, while manager Michael Beale wants him to stay anyway.

Rangers transfer news - Glen Kamara

French side Nantes are said to be keen on Kamara ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Daily Record recently reported that they are preparing a £6m bid for the Finland international.

Kamara has been a bit-part player at Ibrox this season, starting just three Scottish Premiership games under Giovanni van Bronckhorst before his dismissal, as per Transfermarkt.

Had Van Bronckhorst remained at the Glasgow club, you suspect that Kamara probably would have asked for a move. With a new man in Beale at the helm, though, he may now be more open to staying.

What has Dean Jones said about Glen Kamara and Rangers?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Rangers want to retain Kamara's services.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "Rangers plan to keep Glen Kamara for now and aren’t actually expecting too much interest in him in January from what I’ve been told. Beale really likes him and would probably look to utilise him while he gets things settled."

Glen Kamara's contract

Kamara has a deal until 2025, so Rangers are under no pressure to sell him in January if Nantes or another team do come knocking.

According to Salary Sport, that deal is worth £21,000 a week and expires in the May of the aforementioned year.

Kamara has obviously not made much of an impact this season, but he is still a really good player to have around.

Under former manager Steven Gerrard, the ex-Dundee man was quite reliable. In the 2020/21 campaign, where Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title, he had a pass success rate of 90.7%. Out of the team's regulars, it was the highest number recorded, as per WhoScored.

“It is quite obvious any time I am watching the matches that he is one of the most important players for Rangers," former Gers goalkeeper Antti Niemi was quoted as saying by the Daily Record last year.

"Glen just adds something different to the team," he later went on to add.

It is perhaps wise, then, that Rangers and Beale are not forcing Kamara out of the door.
