Tottenham Hotspur have been keeping an eye on Fiorentina and Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, says journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 26-year-old has been one of the World Cup's standout players and is now being linked with a move away from the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Tottenham transfer news - Sofyan Amrabat

According to a report from Calciomercato, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte actually requested the club to sign Amrabat during the summer and remains keen on the Morocco international.

Despite his exploits in Qatar, he may not cost that much money either, with Foot Mercato's Аnas Bakhkhar recently telling Empire of the Kop that Fiorentina are likely to ask for up to €40m (around £34m) for their midfielder.

In the last transfer window, Tottenham signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton. They also have the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their squad.

However, it seems like Conte still wants to add to his midfield for the second part of this season.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Sofyan Amrabat and Tottenham?

O'Rourke reckons Tottenham have been watching Amrabat and thinks his World Cup performances would have impressed them.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I'm sure Spurs have been keeping a close eye on him during this World Cup tournament, and I'm sure that they can only have been impressed by his performances for Morocco. He's probably been Morocco's star man in midfield."

Just how good was Sofyan Amrabat at the World Cup?

He was exceptional and has arguably been the best midfielder at the tournament. Even French president Emmanuel Macron has said as much.

As per WhoScored, Amrabat made 2.5 tackles per game, which was the third-highest average in Walid Regragui's squad.

The former Hellas Verona man also completed 44.2 passes a match, the highest average among his team-mates. As well as being able to win back the ball, it is clear to see that he could also keep it.

Ultimately, based on his World Cup showing, Amrabat looks like he could be a shrewd addition to Conte's squad.

The Guardian's Ed Aarons, however, recently told GMS that Amrabat is quite similar to the options that the Italian has already got.

Bissouma, though, has barely played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season. As shown on Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old has made just six starts in the Premier League. In the Champions League, he has not been named in Conte's first XI once.

With Conte not really fancying Bissouma, perhaps there could be room for Amrabat in that part of north London.
