Aston Villa’s links to Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma are not to be believed, despite the player having previously worked under current Villains head coach Unai Emery, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

The Spaniard will be looking to bring in new additions at Villa Park in the January transfer window.

Aston Villa transfer news – Arnaut Danjuma

According to The Mirror, Villa are looking to raid Emery’s former club in Villarreal with both Danjuma and striker Nicolas Jackson being touted as potential new signings for the West Midlands side in the new year, with Yahoo Sport suggesting that he could cost around £39m back in the summer.

The club previously attempted to sign the Dutch forward during the summer transfer window of 2021 when he was playing for then-Championship side Bournemouth, before the 25-year-old joined the La Liga side for a fee of £21.3m instead.

However, after Emery was appointed Villa manager back in November, it would seem likely that he will be tempted to bring some of his former players over to British shores ahead of the second half of the Premier League campaign.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has recently told GiveMeSport that the former Arsenal manager will be using his contacts in Spain to try and improve the Villains’ attacking options in January.

But Taylor is under the impression that the link to Danjuma is not something that the club are currently working on ahead of the new year.

What has Taylor said about Villa and Danjuma?

Taylor told GiveMeSport: “Danjuma isn't one that's bubbling at the moment. I've seen links to him but that's not the case, although that's a player that Emery very much appreciated at Villareal.”

Would Danjuma be a good signing for Villa?

Should Villa change their minds and secure the addition of Danjuma in the new year, he would likely give Villa an added attacking edge from January and beyond.

The six-time Netherlands international has scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 48 appearances for the Yellow Submarine since signing in 2021 according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that the forward is very much capable of finding the back of the net regularly.

However, a WhoScored rating of 6.23 for the current La Liga campaign would suggest that Danjuma has struggled to hit the ground running this season and this may be a reason why Villa are currently not exploring the potential of a deal in January.

Despite Emery’s previous connections to the Dutchman at Villarreal, it seems unlikely at the time of writing that we will be seeing Danjuma in a claret and blue shirt at Villa Park in the new year.
