Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has garnered 'interest from abroad' and is 'very open-minded' about what the future holds amid uncertainty over his Selhurst Park future, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Eagles boss Patrick Vieira will be handed the opportunity to bolster his squad when the winter window opens next month, but he could also see his talisman head through the exit door.

Crystal Palace transfer news - Wilfried Zaha

Writing in his CaughtOffside column, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Zaha is now likely to walk away from Palace as a free agent in the summer.

The transfer guru suggests the Eagles are unlikely to tempt the winger into penning fresh terms ahead of the January transfer window, leaving them vulnerable, but the club will continue in their attempts to convince Zaha to extend his stay in south London.

With Zaha entering the final six months of his £130,000-per-week deal at the turn of the year, he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas suitor on January 1.

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport that Palace are 'fighting a losing battle' in their bid to keep their academy graduate beyond the end of the campaign.

Zaha's contractual situation has led to Tottenham Hotspur keeping tabs on his situation, while Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are further suitors.

What has Dean Jones said about Zaha?

Jones understands that Zaha has been the subject of interest from overseas clubs, meaning the signing of a pre-contract agreement during the early stages of 2023 cannot be ruled out.

The journalist feels the Ivory Coast international is currently in constant dialogue with his representatives over his options.

When asked whether a summer exit as a free agent is the most likely outcome, Jones told GiveMeSport: "Yes, it seems it. He can sign a pre-contract with an overseas club from January 1, so that'll be interesting because he's had interest from abroad for a little while now.

"I expect the people around him to remain very open-minded here about what is possible for Zaha in the next few years of his career."

Should Palace cash-in on Zaha in January?

Jones told GiveMeSport during the summer transfer window that Palace valued Zaha at up to £30million, but it is increasingly unlikely that clubs will be willing to fork out that amount in January when he could be signed as a free agent in a matter of months.

That is when the Eagles will have to weigh up whether it is worth securing a nominal fee for a player co-owner Josh Harris has described as 'phenomenal' or they would be better off keeping him on board until the end of the season in the hope that they can persuade him to put pen-to-paper before his current agreement expires.

Considering Zaha has scored 89 goals and racked up a further 75 assists in 443 Palace appearances, according to Transfermarkt, holding onto the 30-year-old would be the better option.

Offloading their key man could result in the Eagles being dragged into a relegation dogfight and maintaining their Premier League status will be more valuable than securing a fee which is nowhere near the amount Zaha is truly worth.
