There is a belief in Italy that Tottenham Hotspur target Milan Skriniar could end up signing a new deal at Inter Milan, journalist Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.

The central defender is out of contract next summer and is being linked with a move to Spurs, but Jones has suggested that he could remain at the San Siro.

Tottenham transfer news - Milan Skriniar

Calciomercatoweb recently claimed that Skriniar is Antonio Conte's dream defensive signing heading into the January transfer window.

According to the same outlet, Tottenham are now prepared to pay €30m (around £26m) for Conte's ex-player.

However, despite his contract situation, it is believed that £26m will not be enough to convince Inter to sell next month.

He has been a key player for them since joining the club from Sampdoria back in 2017, making over 20 appearances in all competitions this season so far, as per Transfermarkt.

What has Dean Jones said about Milan Skriniar and Tottenham?

Jones says whether Tottenham make a move for Skriniar or not depends on what happens with his contract.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: "It's all going to depend on what happens with his contract at Inter. I mean, there's a belief in Italy that he might still end up signing a new deal.

"If you were to look at it on face value now, it looks like he might be available at a cut price, but the reality of that might be different."

Who else is interested in Milan Skriniar?

Calciomercatoweb has also claimed that Tottenham's Premier League rivals Newcastle United want to sign Skriniar.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke thinks the Slovakia international is the kind of player the Magpies would love to add to their squad as they look to build on their success this season.

It would also not be a shock if Paris Saint-Germain entered the race for Skriniar, as he was a target for them during the summer.

"I’m not 100% satisfied with how the transfer window ended. We failed to get the right balance," PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos told RMC Sport (via SempreInter) back in September when discussing the French club's interest in Skriniar.

"Skriniar was not the only player we talked to. There were other targets as well."

Ultimately, then, if Tottenham do go after Skriniar next month, then they could face a lot of competition for his signature. And if there is an opportunity to sign him at the end of the season for free, there could be even more.
