Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez will now 'want assurances' over Unai Emery's ambitions after returning to Villa Park as a World Cup winner, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Having been appointed as the Villans' head coach in October, Emery will have the opportunity to oversee incomings and outgoings when the winter window opens for business next month.

Aston Villa transfer news - Emiliano Martinez

According to French outlet Media Foot, Bayern Munich are interested in Martinez and could look to strike a January deal.

The report suggests the reigning Bundesliga champions are in the market for a new goalkeeper following a season-ending injury sustained by Manuel Neuer and the Argentina international has worked his way onto their radar.

Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also known to be admirers of Martinez, while agent Gustavo Goni has admitted his client is keen to compete in the Champions League.

Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping an eye on the 30-year-old's situation ahead of potentially pouncing next summer.

But Villa are in a strong negotiating position and not under pressure to sanction Martinez's departure as his £100,000-per-week contract still has more than four-and-a-half years to run.

What has Dean Jones said about Martinez?

Jones believes Martinez's confidence and aspirations will have increased tenfold after tasting World Cup glory on Sunday.

The reliable journalist feels the South American will be seeking conversations with Emery as he mulls over his long-term future.

Jones told GiveMeSport: "He's always had high ambition and that's obviously going to increase on the back of winning a World Cup.

"He'll certainly want assurances of where Aston Villa are heading right now. Having Unai Emery as his boss is definitely helpful as it will help give him belief that he can win trophies."

How has Martinez performed this season?

Martinez headed to the World Cup having kept four clean sheets in 16 Villa outings since the campaign got underway, according to Transfermarkt.

But it was in Qatar where he certainly made a name for himself as a key save from Randal Kolo Muani, along with keeping out Kingsley Coman's penalty in the shoot-out, was pivotal in Argentina overcoming France in the final and winning the competition for a third time.

Former Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere has claimed that Martinez is an 'immense presence' between the sticks and also described the Villa man's Golden Glove award, after being named the best goalkeeper at the World Cup, as 'off the scale'.

Villa will be hoping that their first-choice shot-stopper will return to the Midlands full of confidence and looking to build on that form when the Premier League season resumes.
