Man United transfer news - Cody Gakpo

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GMS that United will make a bid of around £40m for Gakpo when the window opens next month.

He is also confident that a deal is doable at that price, and should it happen, you would expect Ten Hag to be delighted with that piece of business.

According to 90min, the United manager wanted Gakpo during the summer and is still eager to bring him to Old Trafford now.

The Manchester club could very well sign a new attacker in January following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Cody Gakpo and Man United?

Romano says Gakpo is a "serious option" for United and Ten Hag right now.

Speaking to GMS, the Italian journalist said: "At the moment, he's a serious option. Manchester United are working on it. They are in contact with his agents."

Is anyone else interested in Cody Gakpo?

Before the World Cup, The Athletic also mentioned Real Madrid as a potential destination for Gakpo.

The 23-year-old impressed in Qatar and is having a good season overall, so it really would not be a surprise to see big clubs like Real Madrid and United get in a tussle for him.

In the five games Gakpo played for the Netherlands at the World Cup, he scored three times, as per Transfermarkt. The PSV star has also registered nine times and provided 12 assists in the Eredivisie this term, so it is clear to see that he carries a huge threat.

"Things can change but Cody has everything it takes to become a star," Louis van Gaal recently said (via Daily Mirror) when discussing Gakpo.

"He has a wonderful personality to become a star player because he is open minded to anything and everything."

All in all, it is not hard to see why Ten Hag wants him. And for £40m, a deal certainly does seem possible next month.

With Ronaldo now gone, bringing Gakpo in makes a lot of sense, if it did not already, as United look to finish in the top four and make a return to the Champions League.
