Tottenham Hotspur target Sofyan Amrabat is the "ideal" midfielder for Antonio Conte, believes journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Spurs boss is thought to be keen on the Morocco star, and O'Rourke thinks he is perfect for the style of football currently being played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham transfer news - Sofyan Amrabat

O'Rourke told GiveMeSport earlier this month that Tottenham were probably keeping a close eye on Amrabat during the World Cup.

According to Calciomercato, Conte actually wanted the 26-year-old during the summer and the north London club could now make a move for him.

Regarding how much Amrabat could cost, a report from Moroccan outlet Lions de L’Atlas claims that Fiorentina want €45m (around £39m) for their midfielder.

As well as Tottenham, the same outlet alleges that Liverpool, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are all also interested in the player.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Sofyan Amrabat and Tottenham?

O'Rourke has praised Amrabat and believes he would be perfect for Tottenham and Conte.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "On paper, he looks like he's the ideal midfielder for Antonio Conte. A great defensive midfielder, great energy to get around the pitch, likes making tackles and he's also good on the ball as well, so a good passer.

"I think for someone like Antonio Conte, his work rate is perfect for the type of football that he likes to play."

Is Sofyan Amrabat perfect for Tottenham?

Yes. When you look at the sort of midfielders Conte has worked with, the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur now and N'Golo Kante in the past, Amrabat is of the same mould. He is a footballer who can win the ball back.

As per WhoScored, the Fiorentina man made 2.3 tackles per game during the World Cup, which was the third-highest average in Morocco's squad.

"He is essential for balance and a great runner," former England manager Fabio Capello told Il Messaggero (via Voetbal) when discussing Amrabat's impact in Qatar. "I read that he covered more than fourteen kilometres against Spain. I see him as the Gennaro Gattuso of Morocco."

With Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma, Tottenham already have quite a strong midfield - though the last of that trio has only made six league starts this season, as shown on Transfermarkt.

Nevertheless, Amrabat is a quality player and could strengthen them even further in the middle of the park. So if there is an opportunity to bring him to Hotspur Way next month, Spurs should probably take it.
