Liverpool would have to pay a “big fee” to secure the services of Brighton and Hove Albion and Ecuador international Moisés Caicedo for Jürgen Klopp’s side at Anfield this winter, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The midfielder had been part of Gustavo Alfaro’s La Tri squad at the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

Liverpool transfer news – Moisés Caicedo

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, both Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in striking a deal with Brighton for the services of Caicedo this winter, but the Seagulls have no interest in letting the midfielder leave in the middle of the campaign.

The south coast club reportedly value the South American star at £70m according to The Sun and will be under no pressure to sell the Ecuador star in January, with the 21-year-old still having over two-and-a-half years on his current contract at the Amex Stadium left to run.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has previously told GiveMeSport that the signing of a midfielder is a possibility for the Merseyside club in the upcoming transfer window, with Florian Plettenberg suggesting that the Brighton man is an option for Klopp in January.

And O’Rourke believes that any move for Caicedo next month would have to be on Brighton’s terms.

What has O’Rourke said about Caicedo and Liverpool?

O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “It'd be a big fee if Brighton were to consider selling him in January. I'm sure if Liverpool and Chelsea do firm up their interest in Caicedo, it's a move that maybe the player will be interested in, but it would have to be on Brighton's terms.”

How did Caicedo perform at the World Cup?

Caicedo played in every minute of Ecuador’s World Cup campaign as La Tri suffered a group-stage exit, with the Netherlands and Senegal qualifying for the next stage of the tournament at their expense.

However, the midfielder was able to provide the South American side with a goal in Qatar, his equaliser against Senegal proved to be in vain with the African side going on to win the deciding group-stage clash 2-1.

Sofascore handed the Brighton starlet an average rating of 6.67 for his showings at the World Cup, suggesting he performed to a solid if unspectacular basis in the Middle East, averaging one shot per game as well as two tackles per 90 minutes.

However, the Premier League starlet will be hoping that a decent showing on the world’s biggest stage could potentially secure him a move to one of Europe’s top clubs in the upcoming transfer windows but will be focusing on playing a key role in Brighton’s aim to finish in the top half of the Premier League for a second consecutive campaign.
