The best 'value for money' F1 drivers of the 2022 season have been revealed by Racing News 365, and it may shock you who some of the most 'economical' drivers are!

We doubt the Formula 1 team owners are feeling the cost of living crisis quite as much as the most of us this Christmas, however, we are sure that they still love a good bargain!

And, it has been revealed just which driver has been the biggest bargain, and who has not quite been enough bang for their buck this season.

While the Drivers' World Championship often gets the most limelight, the Constructors' Championship is crucial in rewarding the F1 teams financially, with each individual place differing by millions of dollars.

And so, based on drivers' base salaries (excluding bonuses) and their total points amassed over the season, the cost per point of each F1 driver has been worked out.

Who was the best value for money in F1's 2022 season?

Charles Leclerc (308 points) - $38,961

Nicholas Latifi (2 points) - $500,000

As you can see, there are some extremely vast differences in the drivers' cost per point.

The driver that was the best 'value for money' for their team over the 2022 season was Mercedes' George Russell. Narrowly missing out on a top three finish for 2022, Russell picked up a huge 275 points over the season. When divided from his $5,000,000 salary, the cost per point from Russell for Mercedes is a mere $18,182.

Despite only finishing 35 points behind, Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton had a far higher cost per point at $166,667. This is, of course, due to the F1 star's whopping $40,000,000 salary, the highest in the championship.

However, Hamilton was not the least value for money, with 10 other drivers costing just as much or more per point. The most 'costly' driver over the season was none other than Aston Martin's Lance Stroll, costing a huge $555,556 per point.
