Salt Bae has got as many headlines as Lionel Messi following the 2022 World Cup final.

Okay, maybe not quite as many but the celebrity chef has certainly got everyone talking after Argentina triumphed over France in Qatar.

Why?

Well after the dramatic penalty shootout, Salt Bae was seen having pictures with the World Cup trophy and appearing to pester many of the victorious Argentine stars.

At one moment, Lionel Messi didn't look too impressed after being pulled back by him.

So, why was Salt Bae even at the World Cup final - let alone allowed unprecedented access after the game had finished?

Well, it seems we may have our answer.

Is Salt Bae friends with Giovanni Infantino?

It's believed Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gokce, is rather friendly with FIFA boss, Giovanni Infantino.

And now, a video of Infantino at one of Salt Bae's restaurants from January 2021 has emerged on social media.

The video shows Salt Bae doing what he's renowned for - cutting up steak - before Infantino does the famous salt sprinkle.

At the end of the clip, Infantino says: "Mr. Nusret. Number one. The best of the best. Unforgettable evening here in Dubai at Nusret. I'll come back. Legend. Legend number one."

Salt Bae was one of Infantino's 303 Instagram followers at 6pm on Thursday, but has now unfollowed him.

And fans are convinced Infantino is responsible for giving Salt Bae 'Access All Areas' permission for the final.

FIFA are investigating Salt Bae after World Cup final

Fans have been reacting to the resurfaced clip following Salt Bae's World Cup antics and believe it was Infantino who have him access.

FIFA have now admitted they are investigating how a number of people - including Salt Bae - were given 'undue access' on the pitch last Sunday.

In a statement to BBC Sport, a Fifa spokesperson said: "Following a review, Fifa has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on 18 December.

"The appropriate internal action will be taken."
