Southampton want to sign a striker similar to Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic or Brentford's Ivan Toney, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
Jones says the Saints also want to bring a new wide man to St Mary's when the window opens next month.

Southampton manager Nathan Jones has made it clear that he wants new signings in January and as quickly as possible.
"We have one of the best recruiters in the world in Rasmus Ankersen and Sport Republic in how they do that. So we’ve been really regimented in what we want, we’ve been clear in what we want, what type of player, what position, everything we want," Jones recently told the Daily Echo.
"We’ve narrowed that down and we’ll be having conversations to try and get those through the door as early as we can because there are certain things we need and we need them quickly."
The Saints currently find themselves in the relegation zone with just 12 points so really could do with some new additions.

Jones says Southampton want to sign a new forward and winger when the window reopens next month.
Speaking to GMS, the transfer expert said: "We know Southampton are in the market for two players and one will be wide and one will be a central figure of attack. Ultimately, he needs a bagsman, doesn't he? He needs somebody that can be relied on in the box.
"They don't have that guy. They don't have a Mitrovic, an Ivan Toney, and that's what they're looking for. You've got to have somebody that you can turn to week in, week out for goals, and Southampton just haven't had it."

Who could Southampton sign?
In regards to a striker, Jones recently told GMS that St Mary's could still be a destination for Benfica's Goncalo Ramos.
According to The Telegraph, the 21-year-old was a target for the south coast club during the summer. Since then, he has gone to the World Cup with Portugal and impressed.
In Qatar, the Benfica man scored three times in four games, with all of those goals coming in the 6-1 win against Switzerland in the last 16, as shown on Transfermarkt. He effectively replaced Cristiano Ronaldo for the knockout stage of the tournament.
Ramos' form at club level has also been good this season. In 11 league appearances, he has registered on nine occasions.
If Southampton can bring him to St Mary's, then that would be some signing, but you suspect it is not going to be easy following his World Cup exploits.
