Chelsea have an interest in Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, journalist Simon Phillips has informed GiveMeSport.

However, Phillips says the 28-year-old also has other admirers, meaning the Blues could face a transfer tussle if they want to sign him.

Chelsea transfer news - Jordan Pickford

Last month, The Sun claimed that Chelsea would scout Pickford during the World Cup.

The west London club could be in the market for a new goalkeeper, with the future of Edouard Mendy uncertain.

At the end of November, Phillips told GMS that Chelsea would listen to offers for the Senegal international next summer.

Mendy lost his spot as first-choice keeper to Kepa Arrizabalaga before the Spaniard picked up an injury, leaving his future at Stamford Bridge in doubt.

What has Simon Phillips said about Jordan Pickford and Chelsea?

Phillips says Chelsea are just one of a number of clubs who are currently interested in Pickford.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "He's got a lot of interest. Tottenham, even Chelsea have been linked to him recently. I know that there is interest from Chelsea's side as well, but there are a number of clubs."

Would Jordan Pickford be a good replacement for Edouard Mendy?

If Mendy does end up leaving Chelsea, Pickford is not the worst successor Chelsea can pick.

The Everton star is obviously a very experienced Premier League goalkeeper, making over 200 appearances in the competition, as per Transfermarkt.

Pickford, who cost the Toffees £30m when he signed from Sunderland, as reported by Sky Sports, has also proven that he can do it on the big stage.

"Pickford is outstanding," former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara said on talkSPORT when discussing his performances for England at international tournaments.

With the former Sunderland man being one of Everton's best players, though, the Toffees are going to want to keep hold of him. Interest from London rivals Tottenham and others could also complicate things.

Nevertheless, if Graham Potter wants to sign Pickford, Chelsea will probably still fancy their chances of landing him. Money is usually not a problem for the Blues, while the fact that they compete for trophies practically every season may also appeal to the England international.

A lot, of course, depends on Mendy and Kepa. If both of them remain at Stamford Bridge, bringing in Pickford obviously would not be practical. Should one go, however, then he is a name probably worth at least considering.
