Jordan Henderson revealed he was 'ready to kill' former Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez after an explosive bust-up in training.

The current Anfield skipper, then 20, had just arrived at the Kop for £20 million from Sunderland in 2011 when tempers flared.

Meanwhile, Suarez, who is currently a free agent, had already been at the club for several months before he moved there himself.

England international Henderson - who has won 74 caps for his country - previously admitted that he almost let his temper get the better of him after being made to feel inadequate.

However, the pair quickly patched things up, before becoming close pals on and off the pitch.

Why did Jordan Henderson want to kill Luis Suarez?

“I was trying to do the best I can do. Being a footballer, there is criticism and people doubting you all the time,” he told Jamie Carragher during an appearance on The Greatest Game podcast in 2019.

“At that time, I was a young player and there were one or two things Luis did in training that I didn’t like.

“It made me feel I wasn’t good enough to be in the same team in training.

“The arms were up like ‘what the f***, what is he doing’, like I shouldn’t be there.

"That really hurt me. He did it three times and then I exploded and I was ready to kill him.

“From that point, I had a good relationship with Luis. The next game I set him up for his goal.

“He was brilliant with me after that and I was really close to him after that and he was another big player I learned from.”

Where is Luis Suarez now?

Suarez, 35, scored 82 goals in 133 games for the Reds before moving to Spain to play for Barcelona in 2014.

The Uruguay striker won four La Liga titles and one Champions League - as well as his first and only UEFA Super Cup - at Camp Nou.

Suarez also won two Spanish Super Cups and four Copa del Rey crowns during his six-year stay, before joining Atletico Madrid for £5 million in 2020.

After two more years in Madrid, Suarez rejoined his boyhood club Nacional earlier this year.

Since returning from the World Cup, he has been linked with a move to Brazil.
