Chelsea could look to lure Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge on loan as co-owner Todd Boehly wants to show the Blues are 'serious about attracting some of the biggest names in football', transfer expert Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Graham Potter, who was appointed as the capital club's head coach in September, will be handed his first opportunity to strengthen the squad when the winter window opens at the turn of the year.

Chelsea transfer news - Joao Felix

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are looking to sign Felix on an initial loan deal which includes an option or obligation to seal a permanent switch.

The report suggests Atletico are now braced for an offer as Boehly is eager to move swiftly to ensure the west Londoners beat other suitors to the 23-year-old's signature.

Arsenal and Manchester United are also battling it out to tempt Felix to the Premier League after it emerged that his current employers are willing to sanction a loan move for an £8million fee.

Although super-agent Jorge Mendes has been pushing for his client to make a January move to Aston Villa, the attacker does not see relocating to Birmingham as an attractive prospect.

Respected journalist Simon Phillips recently told GiveMeSport that Chelsea have continued scouting Felix after he was initially on their radar during Roman Abramovich's reign.

What has Dean Jones said about Felix?

Jones believes Chelsea could look to take advantage of Atletico's stance by attempting to secure Felix's services on loan before potentially keeping him at Stamford Bridge.

The journalist feels Boehly would not hesitate in forking out a significant fee to seal the temporary switch.

Jones told GiveMeSport: "A loan and an option is definitely something that is tempting.

"I think that some money involved in that loan will be totally fine because, clearly, Todd Boehly wants to show that Chelsea are serious about attracting some of the biggest names in football and Joao Felix is still that."

Should Chelsea sign Felix on loan?

Felix has scored 53 goals and registered a further 29 assists over the course of his senior club career, according to Transfermarkt.

Those figures emphasise that he would make Chelsea even more dangerous in the final third of the pitch and, following Armando Broja's season-ending knee injury, the Portugal international could be the perfect option.

Felix also shone at the World Cup, where Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were the only Portuguese stars to secure a better WhoScored rating than his 7.1.

But Chelsea should only seal the Atletico man's loan arrival if they are able to include an option or obligation to retain his services in west London beyond the end of the campaign.

Forking out £8million when there is not a possibility of keeping Felix, who cost his current employers £113million when he joined from Benfica in 2019, would not make business sense.
