West Ham United centre-back Thilo Kehrer has been unconvincing this season and looks “a yard off the pace” for David Moyes’ side at the London Stadium, journalist Paul Brown has told GiveMeSport.

The German international signed for the Irons for a fee of £10.1m during the summer transfer window.

West Ham news – Thilo Kehrer

Kehrer has not necessarily had the desired impact required since making the move to east London from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, with the Irons teetering dangerously on the brink of the relegation zone, after a start to the Premier League season which has seen them earn just 14 points in 16 matches.

Moyes’ side now have a huge fixture to prepare for on Friday evening when they welcome Brentford to the London Stadium, where they will hope a victory can drag them away from the bottom three, with the Hammers sitting just one point above the drop zone at the time of writing.

Transfer insider Dean Jones told GiveMeSport last month that Moyes is now “looking at a few different options” as he aims to bolster his backline in the January market, suggesting he is not entirely pleased with the performances of the 6 foot 1 centre-back.

And Brown isn’t convinced about Kehrer's performances as of yet and suggests that he cannot be trusted to perform on a regular basis.

What has Brown said about West Ham and Kehrer?

When asked if he agrees with other journalists' negative opinions on Kehrer, Brown told GiveMeSport: “I'm not convinced by him either. He looks a yard off the pace at the moment. He doesn't seem to have adapted very well since he's come in.

“He's had the odd game where he's looked okay, but I'm not sure you can trust him on a regular basis.”

How has Kehrer performed this season?

Since his arrival in the summer transfer window, Kehrer has played in 100% of Premier League minutes available, making 14 appearances and helping the side keep three clean sheets according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that Moyes feels that the 24-time Germany international is one of his more reliable options at the back.

However, an average WhoScored rating of 6.33 for the Premier League season ranks the £80k-per-week defender as the 16th-best performing player in the Hammers squad, suggesting that he has not had the desired impact required in east London.

It has been a tough start to life at West Ham for Kehrer, but the former Schalke centre-back will be hoping that the second half of the campaign allows him to display his best form, starting with the visit of Brentford on Friday evening.
