Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek should be "seeking clarification" over his Old Trafford future, transfer insider Dean Jones believes.

The Netherlands international has failed to establish himself in the United side since joining in 2020 and has been urged to make a decision on his next move.

What's the latest news on Van de Beek and Man United?

It's been a bleak two years for van de Beek. Arriving at Old Trafford to the tune of much fanfare in September 2020, the dynamic midfielder put pen to paper on a lucrative £34.7m deal. Pocketing a reported £120,000 per week, the Ajax academy graduate has struggled to adapt to life in England and has found game time limited.

With game time at a premium during his first season and a half in England, van de Beek joined Everton on a six-month loan in last year's January transfer window, where it looked like the midfielder had turned a corner. Featuring in each of his first six matches for the Toffees - five of those from the starting XI - persistent injury issues plagued the remainder of his spell with the Merseyside club.

Returning to United ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, the appointment of new boss Erik ten Hag looked as if it may spark a change in fortunes for van de Beek, who had worked under the Dutch manager at Ajax. That hasn't appeared to be the case, with injuries and a lack of form meaning van de Beek has played just eight matches across all competitions so far.

What's Jones said about van de Beek and United?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Jones suggested van de Beek may soon need to look for a move away from Old Trafford in an attempt to resurrect his career.

"Well, van de Beek is probably a bigger case to be had here," Jones told GMS.

"We're at a stage where he's almost seen two years of his career pass him by now. He can't let that go on any longer.

"He has to seriously be seeking clarification over what happens next at United."

Should van de Beek leave United in January?

At the peak of his powers during Ajax's run to the Champions League final in 2019, Transfermarkt rated van de Beek's market value in excess of €50 million. There was belief that the £35m fee United paid in September 2020 equated to something of a steal for the Manchester-based side, given how much was expected from the midfielder.

Now, with over two years since van de Beek made the switch, his market value has plummeted to below £20 million according to Transfermarkt - a stark indication of his troublesome spell with United.

It's hard to believe that the quality van de Beek showed at Ajax was a one-off and perhaps a long run in the side could aid his chances. However, alongside the consistency issues, van de Beek has also struggled for fitness and we may be getting towards the stage where United decide to cut their losses.
