Everton manager Frank Lampard will be looking to bring in a 'goalscoring winger' as a 'priority' in the January transfer window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Toffees will be very disappointed with how they have fared in the Premier League so far this season, currently in 17th place, and they are now looking to bolster their squad with a new attacking option in the upcoming market.

Everton transfer news - January targets

As per the Daily Mail, Everton are looking to bring Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga to Goodison in January, with the 20-year-old frustrated with the lack of minutes he has been getting this season.

According to The Athletic, the Toffees have continued to track the progress of Mykhaylo Mudryk, who they targeted in the summer, while the same report also credits them with an interest in Watford's Ismaila Sarr.

Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres is also named as an accessible option for Lampard in January, and he may be considered, given his versatility in being able to play across the front three, as per Transfermarkt.

What has Brown said about Everton's aims in January?

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, Brown claimed that Everton may go back into the market to sign a similar player to the type that they missed out on in the summer:

"The one player they didn't sign for Lampard, that he wanted in the last window, was a wide forward, the goalscoring winger, and that I think is the priority.

"If they could sign one who also slots in as a kind of makeshift centre-forward, I think they would."

Which signing should Everton go for?

Given that Mudryk is now believed to be valued at £85m and Arsenal have made their interest clear with a £55m bid, as per Sky Sports, it seems as though he will be unattainable for the Toffees, who will have to turn their interest elsewhere.

Gyokeres has 12 goals in 23 Championship games for Coventry this season, as per Transfermarkt, but he is unproven above the second tier, and plays more regularly in a central role, which Brown indicated was not the main area that is likely to be strengthened.

The Merseyside club should instead pursue Sarr for a January transfer switch, as he has displayed he is capable of providing goals from the wing.

The Senegal international has netted six times in 19 league appearances this season, as per Transfermarkt, while he also has previous Premier League experience, giving him the edge on the other options.
