Arsenal want to sign a new left-sided centre-back to provide cover for Gabriel, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

However, while landing one is on their agenda, Taylor says it is not a priority for them because of the other central defensive options they already have.

Arsenal's priority right now seems to be signing a winger, which makes sense after they missed out on Raphinha to Barcelona during the summer.

"People think we went in too deep about Raphinha, because Raphinha was everywhere," sporting director Edu told Sky Sports in July. "It's fair we did have some conversations with Deco because Deco is his agent."

The Gunners have since turned their attention to Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhailo Mudryk, who could cost them an extraordinary amount of money.

According to The Telegraph, they have already made an unsuccessful £55m bid with Shakhtar looking for much more.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Arsenal's January transfer plans?

Taylor has informed GMS that Arsenal want a new centre-half but have not made signing one a priority.

Discussing the north London club, the Daily Express journalist said: "They want another left-sided centre-back to provide cover for Gabriel.

"It's one that's on their agenda, but it's not something that's a priority at the moment because obviously they are kind of well stocked at centre-back. Ben White, who's been playing at right-back, for instance. They've got [Takehiro] Tomiyasu as well who can also play at centre-back, Rob Holding, too."

Who could Arsenal sign?

One likely candidate for that left central defender role is Eintracht Frankfurt's Evan Ndicka.

The Evening Standard claimed in October that the 23-year-old has emerged as a transfer option for Mikel Arteta. He is out of contract at the end of the season so could be available for a cut-price fee next month.

What would Ndicka bring to the Emirates? Well other than balance to the backline when Gabriel is unavailable, the ability to deal with danger.

As per WhoScored, the Frenchman is averaging 5.3 clearances per league game this season, which is the most in his squad. He is also winning 2.5 aerial duels a match, making him the best performer in that area as well.

When you consider all of the above and the fact that Ndicka is left-footed, he is just what Arsenal are looking for and could be a great defensive addition to their squad.
