Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte would like to add two more “top-level” additions to his squad at Hotspur Way in January, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Spurs are currently targeting a second consecutive top-four finish in the Premier League, alongside competing in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Tottenham transfer news – January

After having added seven new faces to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer, Conte could now be looking to add two further additions to the Lilywhites squad as he aims to secure Champions League football for next season.

According to reports in Portugal (via The Sun), Spurs are looking at a deal for Sporting Lisbon right wing-back Pedro Porro, who could be available for £26m, with Manchester City set to secure 30% of any transfer fee for their former youth product.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham are competing with Manchester United and Chelsea for the signature of England and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, with the Toffees having not yet signed off on a five-year deal for the stopper.

Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that Conte’s transfer demands could cause upset at the club, with the Italian having not yet agreed on a contract extension as of yet in north London.

And the journalist believes that the former Chelsea head coach is desiring two new players that will improve the club’s chances of success this season.

What has Jones said about Tottenham and Conte?

When asked about what Conte’s desires will be in the transfer market, Jones told GiveMeSport: “His main focus, from what I understand, is just making sure he has two more top, top-level players coming in this month so that he can raise the bar of the starting XI and increase what they are likely to be able to achieve this season. Of course, squad depth matters, but ultimately, it's about having players of a higher level generally, which is what he's looking for.”

Will Conte be backed in January?

When asked in a press conference about his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Conte responded (via Sky Sports): "What I can tell you is that I'm really happy and I have a really good relationship with the club. We talk every day and we try to find, in every situation, the best solution.”

This would hint that Conte could extend his deal in north London beyond the end of the current season, perhaps suggesting that Daniel Levy may be more willing to give the Italian the players he requires in the transfer market.

Therefore, if the Italian is desperate to strengthen the squad, it’s likely that Levy and Fabio Paratici are already working on a transfer strategy for the window over the coming month, in a bid to secure Champions League football for the second consecutive season.
