Newcastle transfer news - Cody Drameh

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are interested in landing Drameh during the early stages of 2023.

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, the respected journalist suggests the right-back has been identified as a target as Howe looks to provide Kieran Trippier with competition.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Newcastle are admirers of Drameh and a mid-season move is a possibility.

But Newcastle are not the 21-year-old's only suitors as Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are mulling over whether to offer a route to the Bundesliga, while French outfit Lille are keeping tabs on his situation as well.

Championship promotion chasers Burnley and Watford are also keen on Drameh and have enquired over his availability.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Drameh?

O'Rourke believes Drameh would be an exciting signing for Newcastle as he has a bright future ahead of him.

The journalist feels the England under-21 international could go on and become a key man for the Magpies in the years ahead.

O'Rourke told GiveMeSport: "If you're looking at a young right-back to come in and provide cover for Kieran Trippier, I think Cody Drameh would be a perfect fit.

"He is very highly-rated at Leeds United and did well out on loan in the Championship as well.

"If Newcastle were able to land him, I think they would get a player with huge potential to become a future star at St James' Park."

Would Drameh be a good signing for Newcastle?

Trippier has made the right-back position his own since completing a £12million move from Atletico Madrid close to 12 months ago, but Drameh would be a promising understudy.

Sofascore statistics show the Leeds youngster made five tackles, one clearance and won six ground duels during his sole Premier League appearance against Brentford this season.

Drameh also emphasised that he is capable of providing goalscoring opportunities during a loan spell with Championship side Cardiff City last term, where he registered three assists.

That will be a further attraction for Newcastle chief Howe, while then-Bluebirds boss Steve Morison described the loanee as 'outstanding'.

The Magpies should double down in their efforts to tempt Leeds into selling Drameh midway through the campaign.
