Tottenham Hotspur are likely to prioritise signing an attacker or central defender over a wing-back like Pedro Porro, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.

The Sporting Lisbon man has been heavily linked with a move to Hotspur Way, but Jones does not think he is at the top of Antonio Conte's list right now.

Tottenham transfer news - Pedro Porro

The Daily Star recently claimed that Porro will be Tottenham's first signing of the January transfer window.

According to the outlet, Spurs are close to wrapping up a deal worth £35m for the 23-year-old.

Conte currently has Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence who can all play in the right wing-back position, but he has never seemed completely satisfied with those options.

In the 6-2 win against Leicester City earlier this season, the Italian started Ivan Perisic on the right side of his defence despite both Emerson and Doherty being included in the matchday squad.

What has Dean Jones said about Pedro Porro and Tottenham's transfer plans?

Jones does not think bringing in a new wing-back like Porro is at the top of Tottenham's agenda.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "There are a few factors that make me question whether he would be a priority. Everything I hear, it's a forward creative player or a centre-back rather than a right-sided wing-back.

"I'm not going to rule it out, but I'd be surprised if that was accelerated ahead of everything else."

Would Pedro Porro be a good signing for Tottenham?

Potentially. His stats this season suggest that he could be ideal for the right wing-back role in Conte's set-up.

In 11 league games, he has managed to score one goal and provide five assists, as per WhoScored. That is a great return for a defender. The Spaniard is also completing 2.2 key passes and 1.5 crosses per match, putting him in the top two players for those categories in his squad.

All things considered, if Conte wants to bring a new right-footed wing-back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this month, then Porro certainly looks like a good option to consider.

It seems, though, that the former Inter Milan boss will prioritise other positions, but in an ideal world, you suspect he would try to fix everything before the end of January.

"Now, we have to buy strong, strong, because the situation is that we are there, but in this league, you can slip quickly," he told Sky Sports after Spurs' 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.
