Newcastle United target Marcus Thuram could cost as little as £10m if Borussia Monchengladbach decide to sell him this month, FootballTransfers' Jacque Talbot has told GiveMeSport.

The forward's contract is set to expire in the summer, giving the German club a big decision to make if an offer arrives for him before the end of January.

Newcastle transfer news - Marcus Thuram

Journalist Steve Bates recently told GMS that Newcastle are one side who are currently looking at Thuram.

The 25-year-old was part of the France squad that reached the World Cup final and impressed at the tournament in Qatar.

As per Transfermarkt, he made five appearances and provided two assists, with one of those coming against champions Argentina.

If clubs were not considering Thuram before the World Cup, they certainly are now after his displays for France.

What has Jacque Talbot said about Marcus Thuram and Newcastle?

Talbot has informed GMS that Thuram is unlikely to cost more than £15m if Gladbach decide to part ways with him in this transfer window.

On the Frenchman's future, he said: "Gladbach's ambition would be to wait and hopefully get him to see out his contract, which ends in the summer. But I heard that if they were looking for a fee, it'd be somewhere between £10-15m, which is relatively low."

Would Marcus Thuram be a good signing for Newcastle?

Absolutely. With him on board, the Magpies would no doubt get a huge boost in their pursuit of Champions League football.

This season, Thuram has proven that he is capable of finding the back of the net. In 15 Bundesliga outings, he has scored 10 goals, as per WhoScored.

The France international is also taking 3.7 shots per league game, which is the highest average in his squad. Right now, he clearly has confidence in his ability.

Compared to Manchester United's Anthony Martial by the Bundesliga's official website, in total, Thuram has scored 59 goals in his senior career (via Transfermarkt).

Ultimately, if Eddie Howe is looking for some more firepower, then the Gladbach star could be a really smart addition to his squad. And with it looking like he will cost £15m at most if his current employers do decide to sanction a sale this month, he could be an absolute bargain.

Given all of the above, though, Newcastle will probably have to convince Thuram to move to St James' Park and beat other clubs to his signature.
