Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has made Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma his ‘top-choice’ to strengthen his attacking options, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Emery is believed to be keen to add strength in depth out wide this month after taking over the reins at Villa Park back in October and could be reunited with Danjuma imminently.

Aston Villa transfer news – Danjuma

Spanish sources have claimed that the Midlands outfit have resumed talks with Villarreal for Danjuma in an attempt to bring him to the club during the winter transfer window.

It’s believed that the Netherlands international has a release clause worth £66 million written into his contract, but that the Yellow Submarine are prepared to sanction his exit if a £44 million bid arrives.

However, Danjuma is not the only wide man on Villa’s radar with BirminghamLive reporting that Villa ‘have enquired’ about Gerard Deulofeu's availability.

The 28-year-old former Watford and Everton star is currently in the form of his life at Udinese and has also previously worked under Emery.

Deulofeu was on loan at Sevilla from Barcelona back in 2014/15 and made 28 appearances as the Rojiblancos claimed the Europa League crown.

What has Jones said about Danjuma?

Jones has told GMS that Emery ‘wants his own wide signing’ this January and that his first-choice in that position is Danjuma.

He said: “We know that Emery wants his own wide signing to come in, and the top-choice is Danjuma, but it would make sense that they're looking at other options too.

Deulofeu's always had the natural ability to play at a very good level in the Premier League, so it would be interesting if they do turn to him.”

How do Danjuma and Deulofeu compare?

Danjuma was in fine form last season, registering 16 goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions as he fired Villarreal to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The La Liga outfit only snapped the versatile attacker up from Bournemouth in a £20 million deal in the summer of 2021, but he could be set to make a return to English shores.

Meanwhile, Deulofeu has taken his game to new heights over the last 18 months; with the diminutive star racking up 18 goal contributions in 34 Serie A games in 2021/22.

The Spain international has carried that form into the current campaign too, finding the back of the net on three occasions in 17 outings while setting up seven further strikes for his teammates.
