Wolverhampton Wanderers would be a ‘decent move’ for Stoke City defender Harry Souttar this January, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the bet365 Stadium in recent weeks following his outstanding exploits for Australia at the World Cup.

Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer news – Harry Souttar

A recent report from TEAMtalk claimed that newly-appointed Wolves manager Julen Lopetgeui is eyeing a move for Souttar in the winter window as he looks to stamp his authority over the first-team squad.

The midlands outfit are expected to face stiff competition for the towering centre-back from Premier League rivals West Ham United, though.

Souttar still has two and a half years remaining on his current contract with Stoke, leading to Alex Neil's charges placing a £25 million price tag on their prized asset.

Wolves have already brought in versatile attacker Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid to aid their survival hopes, and he could be the first of many new signings this month.

The Times reported last month that Lopetegui wants to bring in up to six acquisitions during January after taking over a side that were sitting bottom of the top-flight standings upon his arrival.

What has Jones said about Souttar?

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Harry Souttar obviously had a very good World Cup, and he's got a very good mentality and belief really, in his own ability.

“There have been a few clubs monitoring him since the tournament, and he definitely seems like someone who could make this step up.

“I think Wolves would be a decent move for him, but again, they won't get a clear run at him. So, they're going to have to have a really, really good window here to get these players.”

Would Souttar be a good signing?

Souttar only recovered from an ACL injury on the eve of the World Cup but still played every minute of Australia’s World Cup campaign as they saw off Tunisia and Denmark to reach the last 16.

The 6 foot 6 giant has played six Championship games for the Potters throughout 2022/23, putting up some impressive underlying numbers.

As per WhoScored, Souttar has won 4.3 aerial duels while making an eye-watering 7.2 clearances, placing him in the top two for both metrics amongst his teammates.

After failing to replace Conor Coady, Wily Boly and Romain Saiss adequately over the summer, Souttar would surely be a welcome addition at Wolves this January.
