Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence will be frustrated with how things are going for him right now, journalist Pete O'Rourke has told GiveMeSport.

The 22-year-old joined Spurs last summer but has seen little action under Antonio Conte this season.

While Spence is struggling to get game time in north London, there is an expectation that he will remain at Hotspur Way.

According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, speaking on Last Word On Spurs, Tottenham have no plans to let the right-back go this month.

However, Thomas did suggest that the Premier League outfit's stance could change if they sign a player in his position.

As per Transfermarkt, Spence has not made a single start for Spurs in the English top flight this season.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Djed Spence?

O'Rourke reckons Spence is frustrated with life in north London at the moment.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "I think he'll definitely be frustrated. He probably didn't envisage this move happening the way it's sort of going right now for him at Tottenham. He would've expected more minutes, more first-team opportunities.

"Tottenham obviously spent quite heavily in the summer to land him and they beat quite a few clubs to his signature as well."

Should Djed Spence ask for a loan move this month?

If he wants game time, then he has to. Right now, there are two other right-backs ahead of him in the pecking order at Tottenham: Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.

Spurs did invest quite a bit of money in him, £20m to be precise, as reported by BBC Sport. But that will not guarantee the youngster minutes under Conte, especially with the Italian admitting that the former Middlesbrough man was not his signing.

“Spence is an investment of the club. The club wanted to do it," Conte said back in July (via talkSPORT). "I said, ‘Ok, this player is young, but he showed he can become a good, important player for us.’ The club decided to buy him."

At 22, Spence may very well have a big future at the club. As of now, though, he has a minuscule role under Conte. Therefore, joining another team temporarily is probably in his best interest.

Any exit this month, however, looks like it could depend on whether or not Spurs are able to bring in another right-back before the transfer window closes.
