Chelsea are speaking to the agent of Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro over a potential January move, journalist Simon Phillips has revealed to GIVEMESPORT.

Porro, who moved to Sporting in 2020 from Manchester City, has racked up 21 appearances for the Portuguese side this season.

What's the latest news involving Porro and Chelsea?

Often active in the transfer market, Chelsea have already confirmed a £35 million deal for Benoit Badiashile, are on the verge of welcoming Andrey Santos to the club and are believed to be targeting various other players in January. Less than halfway through the month and it's already been a breathless window for Chelsea, with things set to intensify over the coming days.

Dean Jones recently told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea were eyeing up moves for three players after Santos and Badiashile, with a right-sided defender amongst their targets. Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta has been deployed as a centre-back at times this season, whereas starting right-back Reece James has endured a torrid time with injury and is expected to be out for a number of weeks.

It leaves new boss Graham Potter, who is already under pressure following a run of poor performances, with a conundrum on the right-hand side of the defence. One man Chelsea appears to be targeting in January is Porro, as the Blues look to bolster their right-back options.

However, it appears Chelsea could face stiff opposition for Porro's signature from their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are keen to welcome the 23-year-old this month. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Porro sits top of the list for Spurs' priorities in January with Conte said to be keen on the player.

Whether Tottenham or Chelsea prevail in the race for Porro, it's likely they'll enter firm negotiations, with Sporting intent on holding out for Porro's release clause. Sporting boss Ruben Amorim recently told the press he believed Porro was only available "if the clause is triggered", which is believed to be in the region of €45m (£40m).

What's Phillips said about Porro and Chelsea?

Speaking to GMS, journalist Phillips issued an update surrounding Chelsea's pursuit of Porro, while also revealing other targets the Blues have shown interest in.

"On Pedro Porro, again they're speaking to his agent to see if a move would be viable this month," Phillips told GMS.

"Jeremie Frimpong is another one that's up there. I've not had anything on Denzel Dumfries yet, but he's another one that they've looked at.

"Those three are the main ones I'd say and the key right-backs they're looking at to add some competition for Reece James."

Who else might Chelsea pursue at right-back?

As mentioned by Phillips, Chelsea are already putting the feelers out on various other targets. Transfer insider Dean Jones spoke to GMS recently, revealing that Frimpong is on Chelsea's shortlist. The 22-year-old, who is capped at youth level for the Netherlands, has already made over 120 senior appearances.

Alternatively to Porro and Frimpong, Dumfries is another player being eyed up by Chelsea. Having impressed at both the recent European Championships and World Cup competitions, the Dutch international has featured in every match for Inter Milan this season, making a total of 21 appearances across all competitions.
