Liverpool “very much admire” Brighton and Hove Albion and Ecuador midfielder Moisés Caicedo, but any move to Jürgen Klopp’s side at Anfield could be “messy”, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Reds are looking for midfield additions in 2023 with the club set for a revamp in that department come the end of the season.

Liverpool transfer news – Moisés Caicedo

According to Football Insider sources, Caicedo, who is reportedly valued at £70m, has told friends that he would love to sign for Liverpool if the opportunity presented itself to the Ecuadorian midfielder.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 21-year-old has changed his agent, in preparation for a potential move away from Brighton in 2023, hinting that a transfer to Anfield could be on the cards either this month or in the summer.

Back in September, The Mirror reported that Caicedo had been a last-minute £42m transfer target for the Reds before they signed Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan instead.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that the 28-cap Ecuador international has been “on the radar for a long time” at Anfield, but Jacobs believes that any move for Caicedo brings its complications.

What has Jacobs said about Liverpool and Caicedo?

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “They very much admire the player and have done historically. When he was at Independiente del Valle before he joined Brighton, they did explore signing Moisés Caicedo.

“It's what's been termed to me as a messy deal because even though Brighton could be persuaded to sell for a high price this January, the representation side of things is problematic. There's more than one agent and he also changed his agent towards the back end of the summer.”

Would Caicedo be a good signing for Liverpool?

Caicedo has been a fantastic signing for Brighton since his £5m arrival from Independiente del Valle in February 2021, with the Seagulls almost guaranteeing a huge profit on the midfielder if they were to let him leave the Amex Stadium in 2023.

The Santo Domingo-born player has played in all but one of the side’s possible Premier League fixtures this season, making 16 appearances and providing one goal and one assist, according to Transfermarkt.

The 5 foot 10 engine compares favourably to players in his position in a defensive sense, ranking in the 16% of midfielders across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for tackles per 90 minutes (2.72) over the last 365 days, according to FBref.

Having adapted to life in the Premier League seamlessly, Caicedo may feel that now is the time to make the step up to one of Europe’s elite sides, with Liverpool potentially being the ideal destination if they are willing to spend what it takes to snap up his signature.
