Ten Hag was looking to replace Ronaldo

Last month, Erik ten Hag admitted that he will be looking to replace the outgoing Ronaldo in January.

"Yes, but only when we find the right player," Ten Hag admitted when asked if he will look to sign a striker.

"We will do everything in our power. We are doing research at every opportunity and we will do everything we can (to sign them) if that opportunity is there.”

Ronaldo was released by the club in December following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

In the interview, Ronaldo criticised the club - including Ten Hag himself.

It led to United mutually terminating his contract, allowing him to sign the biggest contract in football history with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

It effectively ends Ronaldo's incredible career in European football and the Champions League. However, he will earn a quite ridiculous amount of money in the final few years of his career.

As for United, they're in a fine run of form without the Portuguese superstar.

They're up to third in the table and just four points behind Manchester City. They also progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup with victory over Everton on Friday night.

Weghorst will be joining a side high on confidence.
