Chelsea are looking at Brighton & Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has informed GiveMeSport.

The Blues have been in the market for a new midfielder, and the 21-year-old appears to be one name that is currently on their list.

Chelsea transfer news - Moises Caicedo

Last month, Sky Sports claimed that both Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing Caicedo.

The former's priority in the midfield seemed to be Enzo Fernandez, though, with the same outlet reporting that the west London club held talks with Benfica over a deal.

In the end, however, nothing came from those discussions, meaning Chelsea may now need to turn to alternatives like Caicedo.

Any deal for the Ecuadorian is likely to be an expensive one, with Jacobs recently telling FootballTransfers that Brighton could demand up to £80m for their star.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Moises Caicedo and Chelsea?

Jacobs has told GMS that Chelsea are monitoring Caicedo and that a move for him is more likely than one for his team-mate Alexis Mac Allister.

On the the Ecuador international, the journalist said: "Chelsea are looking at Caicedo, and we know that Graham Potter knows the player very well, so that's one to watch. I think him more so in this window than Alexis Mac Allister, who Brighton really want to hang on to.

"It's definitely a player to keep an eye on, more so from the Chelsea perspective than the Liverpool perspective at this point."

Who is Moises Caicedo more likely to join, Chelsea or Liverpool?

You can see Chelsea making more of an effort to sign Caicedo than Liverpool this month. Graham Potter's side are really struggling right now, while N'Golo Kante and Jorginho are both out of contract at the end of the season.

Simply put, they probably need a new midfielder like Caicedo way more than their rivals. On top of that, it looks like Jurgen Klopp will prioritise landing Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham in the summer, meaning he may hold off from signing someone for the engine room in this transfer window.

In December, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told GMS that the England international is Liverpool's No.1 target.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be willing to pay £80m for Caicedo if that is the fee Brighton end up asking for. But given all of the above, as well as the fact that Potter has worked with him before, a move to Stamford Bridge looks more likely than a switch to Anfield.
